Cardcaptor Sakura (カードキャプターさくら secara literalnya: Sakura - Si Penangkap Kad) ialah siri manga/anime dari Jepun rekaan kumpulan artis manga shoujo CLAMP. Anime ini telah lama disiarkan oleh NTV7 di Malaysia.
Cerita ini mengisahkan Sakura Kinomoto, seorang kanak-kanak perempuan sekolah rendah yang menemui dan membuka sebuah peti misteri dalam bilik ayahnya, yang setelah dibuka, kemudiannya menimbulkan peristiwa yang mengubah kehidupannya. Setelah membuka peti itu dan mengaktifkan kuasanya, kad-kad yang disimpan dalamnya, iaitu Kad Clow, keluar dari kotak itu secara ajaib dan berterbangan di merata tempat di pekan Tomoeda yang didiami keluarganya. Sakura diberi tanggungjawab menemukan semula kad-kad Clow yang lain.
Sakura dibantu oleh Keruberos (Kero), seekor makhluk ganjil, serta sahabat karibnya Tomoyo Daidouji dalam kembara mereka menemui kad-kad Clow dan menyelamatkan bumi daripada ancaman luar biasa.
Watak-watak
- Sakura Kinomoto (木之本 桜; Kinomoto Sakura) kanak-kanak perempuan berumur 10 tahun yang dipertanggungjawabkan menemukan dan menjaga kad-kad Clow serta memastikan keselamatan awam di Tomoeda kerana kuasa-kuasa kad Clow yang boleh menimbulkan huru-hara jika tidak terkawal. Nama Sakura bermaksud 'bunga cheri'. Sakura dinamakan "Sakura Avalon" dalam versi Inggeris. Pada masa hadapan, Sakura dan Shaoran telah berkahwin dan mempunyai anak lelaki. Malangnya, anak mereka diculik dan dikurung semasa dia berumur 14 tahun dalam cerita Tsubasa Chronicle.

- Tomoyo Daidouji (大道寺 知世; Daidouji Tomoyo) rakan karib dan juga saudara Sakura berumur 10 tahun yang sama-sama belajar di Sekolah Rendah Tomoeda dan merupakan seorang pelajar yang amat terkenal kerana kecantikan dan kepintarannya. Tomoyo juga berkongsi rahsia mengenai tugas Sakura mencari kad Clow dan menyediakan kostum berbeza-beza bagi Sakura semasa pertarungan dengan kad liar. Tomoyo dinamakan "Madison Taylor" dalam versi Inggeris.

- Kero (ケロ, nama penuh Cerberus/Keruberos ケルベロス atau Kerberos dalam versi Inggeris) makhluk berkuasa matahari berbentuk anak patung berkulit jingga dan bersayap putih yang berpengetahuan dalam kad Clow dan kuasa-kuasanya. Dia turun ke bumi untuk mencari pengganti Clow Reed dan justeru memilih Sakura. Bentuk sebenar Kero merupakan seekor singa bersayap putih dan mempunyai alas kepala seakan-akan topi keledar.

Merupakan kanak-kanak lelaki yang berumur 10 tahun dari Hong Kong yang mula-mulanya bersaing dengan Sakura untuk memperoleh kad Clow tetapi lama-kelamaannya berdamai dan kemudian jatuh cinta kepada Sakura. Shaoran juga merupakan keturunan Clow Reed. Nama Shaoran bermaksud 'musang kecil'. Shaoran dinamakan "Li Showron" dalam versi Inggeris. Pada masa hadapan, Sakura dan Shaoran telah berkahwin dan mempunyai anak lelaki. Malangnya, anak mereka diculik dan dikurung semasa berumur 14 tahun dalam cerita Tsubasa Chronicle.

- Touya Kinomoto (木之本 桃矢; Kinomoto Touya) abang kepada Sakura berumur 17 tahun yang berbanyak bakat dan disukai ramai perempuan. Touya seorang penyibuk dan suka memerli dan memanggil adiknya sebagai "raksasa". Dia mempunyai banyak pekerjaan dengan rakan karibya Yukito hanya untuk membiayai kemasukkan universiti di masa depan. Touya mewarisi kuasa daripada ibunya yang telah meninggal dunia seperti kuasa magis untuk melihat (Touya pada masa dahulu kerap melihat roh ibunya) dan merasa sesuatu yang bukan manusia dan lain-lain lagi. Dia kemudiannya mengorbankan kuasanya demi cintanya pada Yukito. Nama Touya bermaksud 'bunga pic'. Touya dinamakan "Tori Avalon" dalam versi Inggeris.

- Yukito Tsukishiro (月城 雪兎; Tsukishiro Yukito) merupakan remaja juga berumur 17 tahun. Seperti Touya, dia juga berbakat dan juga diminati ramai gadis. Dia juga merupakan lelaki pertama yang menjadi pilihan Sakura sebagai teman cintanya di awal kisah cerita. Bagaimanapun, Yukito telah menolak cinta Sakura kerana dia mempunyai perasaan terhadap Touya. Tanpa disedarinya, Yukito merupakan jelmaan Yue, penjaga bumi yang mengiringi Kero lama sebelum cerita ini bermula. Nama Yukito bermaksud 'arnab salji'. Yukito dinamakan "Julian Star" dalam versi Inggeris.

- Yue (ユエ) merupakan penjaga kad Clow berkuasa bulan bersama Kero sewaktu Clow Reed hidup. Yue seorang malaikat yang amat kacak, berambut dan bermata perak dan pendiam. Setelah Reed meninggal, Yue turun ke bumi sebagai jelmaan Yukito. Yue bertugas menguji kebolehan Sakura sebagai pengganti Reed. Pada mulanya, Yue tidak menyukai Sakura sebagai Tuan barunya tetapi selepas beberapa lama, Yue mula menunjukkan rasa bertimbang rasa terhadap Sakura. Selepas Touya mengorbankan kuasanya untuk Yukito, Yue telah mendapatkan balik kuasanya lagi. Dengan itu, Yue amat berterima kasih dan akhirnya berkongsi cinta dengan Yukito terhadap Touya. Yue bermaksud 'bulan' dalam bahasa Cina.
- Meiling Li (李 苺鈴; Li Mei-Ling) merupakan sepupu dan tunang Shaoran berumur 10 tahun yang mempunyai ego dan sombong. Meiling dinamakan "Meilin Rae" dalam versi Inggeris.

- Kaho Mizuki (観月 歌帆; Mizuki Kaho) ialah bekas kekasih Touya dan merupakan seorang guru ganti di Sekolah Rendah Tomoeda yang berkeperibadian misteri. Dia didapati berhubung kait dengan perihal kad Clow dan cuba menolong Sakura mengharungi ujian pewarisan kad Clow. Pada penghujungnya, Kaho sebenarnya merupakan kekasih Eriol Hiiragizawa. Kaho dinamakan "Layla MacKenzie" dalam versi Inggeris.
Seiyuu: Emi Shinohara
- Eriol Hiiragizawa (柊沢 エリオル; Hiiragizawa Eriol) merupakan pelajar yang berpindah dari England pada musim ke-3 yang merupakan penjelmaan semula Clow Reed yang membawa memori dan kuasa Clow Reed. Walaupun nampak muda, Eriol lebih berumur daripada jangkaan. Dia hentikan usianya untuk mendekati Sakura. Meskipun kelihatan bagai watak jahat, namun dia sentiasa menyokong Sakura. Eriol dinamakan "Eli Moon" dalam versi Inggeris.

- Spinel Sun (スピネル・サン) dan Ruby Moon (ルビー・ムーン, juga dikenali sebagai Nakuru Akizuki 秋月 奈久留) merupakan makhluk pengiring Eriol.
- Clow Reed merupakan seorang ahli magis yang amat berkuasa dan terkemuka di seluruh Asia. Clow Reed-lah yang telah menciptakan kad-kad Clow yang ditangkap dan dijaga oleh Sakura. Beliau telah meninggal dunia lebih dari 100 tahun dahulu dan menjelma balik sebagai seorang pelajar bernama Eriol Hiiragizawa dari England.

- Fujitaka Kinomoto (木之本 藤隆; Kinomoto Fujitaka) ialah ayah kepada Touya dan Sakura Kinomoto. Fujitaka adalah seorang pensyarah arkeologi di sebuah universiti. Dia bertemu dan berkahwin dengan Nadeshiko yang hanya berumur 16 tahun dan Fujitaka merupakan gurunya pada masa itu. Walaupun Nadeshiko telah meninggal dunia, Fujitaka tetap setia dan mencintai Nadeshiko. Fujitaka dinamakan "Aiden Avalon" dalm versi Inggeris.

- Nadeshiko Kinomoto (木之本 撫子; Kinomoto Nadeshiko) ialah ibu kepada Touya dan Sakura dan merupakan seorang peragawati. Nadeshiko didedahkan juga mempunyai kuasa seperti kuasa untuk melihat roh yang diwariskan kepada Touya. Dalam pertemuan dengan Fujitaka, Nadeshiko yang berumur 16 tahun pada masa itu ingin menolong seekor anak burung ke sarangnya terjatuh dan mendarat ke atas Fujitaka yang kebetulan sedang berlalu. Kedua-duanya terus jatuh cinta dan berkahwin tidak lama kemudian. Malangnya, Nadeshiko meninggal dunia pada umur 27 tahun akibat penyakit yang tidak diketahui. Nadeshiko dinamakan "Natasha Avalon" dalam versi Inggeris.

- Takashi Yamazaki (山崎 貴史 Yamazaki Takashi)
Takashi ialah seorang yang suka berjenaka apabila Sakura dan yang lain tengah bercerita, Takashi akan selalu menyampuk. Kekasihnya iaitu Chiharu merupakan seorang sahaja yang dia memanggil dengan nama pertamanya. Dalam siri versi Inggeris Card Captor Sakura, Takashi dinamakan "Zachary".

- Chiharu Mihara (三原 千春 Mihara Chiharu)
Chiharu merupakan kekasih Takashi sejak kecil. Chiharu seorang yang selalu memarahi Takashi jikalau dia didapati sedang mereka-reka cerita. Pada hakikatnya, Chiharu amat menyayangi Takashi. Di dalam versi Inggeris iaitu Card Captors, Chiharu ialah sepupu kepada Takashi. Dalam manga, Chiharu yang berpengalaman mengenai hubungan cinta memberikan nasihat kepada Sakura yang keliru dengan perasaannya terhadap Shaoran. Chiharu dinamakan "Chelsea" dalam versi Inggeris.

Kelihatannya Rika dan guru mereka Cikgu Terada mempunyai perhubungan cinta yang tidak berapa ditunjukkan kerana Rka seorang yang pemalu di depan Cikgu Terada. Di dalam manga, Rika ialah tunang kepada Cikgu Terada. Mereka kerap menghabiskan masa bersama dengan berpacaran. Rika dinamakan "Rita" dalam versi Inggeris.

Kontroversi
Umum
Walaupun ditujukan kepada pembaca/penonton kanak-kanak muda atau menghampirai remaja, terdapat segelintir pihak yang menyatakan bahawa dalam cerita ini terdapat elemen yang menimbulkan kepekaan masyarakat, terutamanya perhubungan Toya dan Yukito dianggap bagaikan homoseksual (dalam erti kata lain yaoi/shonen-ai). Unsur-unsur cinta monyet antara Sakura dan Syaoran atau Yukito juga kurang disenangi sesetangah ibu bapa.
Di Malaysia
Sewaktu ditayangkan di NTV7, anime ini menerima banyak potongan oleh Lembaga Penapisan Filem Malaysia atas sebab-sebab yang "sukar diterima" oleh peminat anime ini. Antara adegan-adegan yang ditelunjuk oleh peminat sebagai puncanya ialah bentuk bintang dalam bulatan yang bucunya menyentuh lilitan bulatan tersebut, yang serupa dengan lambang ajaran Syaitan/Black Metal. Paling ketaranya ialah terdapat episod-episod yang hilang atau tersalah susun dalam penyiaran, maka terganggunya jalan cerita.

Definition and purpose
Magical Girls are usually ordinary girls who are granted super powers in order to save the Earth or protect something. They are usually forced into doing this, either by their own mistakes for which they must make up or by important persons who support their choice by saying the Girls are pure-hearted and/or have the necessary powers.
Powers and power-ups
Powers are of 2 types: originated (the Girl was born with them) or obtained (she obtains them after training/learning). Originated powers can manifest themselves during the Girl's life (before she finds out 'officially' about them) and increase after she finds out they're 'real' and not just some 'gift'. The obtained powers aren't so common and are mainly magical powers (spells, charms etc.) or physical abilities (super speed, agility etc.).
Frequently, the Magical Girls have to protect an important item from a being who wants to use it to rule the world. But when the Enemy obtains the item upon defeating the Magical Girls, the hidden powers come into play. These are used only in case of extreme emergency and are summoned by complicated rituals or the power of Love, after meditation or immediately. Sometimes the item itself plays an important role.
Power-ups are a must-have in long anime series, since people tend to be bored if a Magical Girl has only one attack/transformation phase in 50 episodes.
Magical items and attacks
A show with Magical Girls cannot exist without a magical item. From staffs to body parts, they are used as a mode to direct the possessor's energy. Items can be used for both defense (in the beginning) and attack (when the Magical Girl isn't afraid of her Enemy any more). Also, a Magical Girl can rarely transform without a particular item she keeps with her all the time, like a locket, hair clip or ring.
When such an item is broken or otherwise out of order, it is a sign of an incoming power-up. This can happen at random times and/or in a decisive battle with the strongest Enemy.
Allies and Enemies
In the beginning, Magical Girls have a Mentor who guides them through their first battles and teaches them how to act and fight, as well as provides them with data about the enemy. Mentors often disappear after a few episodes, either dying or going on important missions.
Here's where the Assistants (or Allies) enter the scene. Magical Girls can be aided by creatures (very often), extraterrestrial beings, spirits, humans who don't possess magical powers or other Magical Girls (teams are a frequent and popular subject of anime series).
Secrets and costumes
Of course, the Magical Girls have to keep their lives secret from others (the police, their families and friends). This can lead to arguments and people trying to find out the secret. Costumes are for protecting the Girls from the 'good guys' who would turn bad upon finding it out.

A classic and a childhood source of inspiration for many, Sailor Moon is the story of Senshi (Soldiers) who protect the Earth from invaders and evil-doers. In the beginning there are only 5 Senshi but more join the team as the story progresses, fighting powerful villains and discovering their past.
Considered very cliche by many, this anime is still very popular and spans 200 episodes (in 5 seasons), 3 movies and countless merchandise items with worldwide success. More info...

Tokyo Mew Mew (Mew Mew Power)
5 girls are infused with the DNA of endangered animals which gives them the ability to transform into Mew Mews, beings with special abilities like super speed and agility, not to mention super powers. The story focuses on Ichigo, Mint, Lettuce, Pudding and Zakuro, the unwilling heroes who must now save the Earth from the invading aliens who plan to conquer it. Along the way they form friendships and discover new enemies and allies.
Running for 52 episodes, TMM aired from 2002 to 2003. 4Kids dubbed 26 episodes but the other 26 aren't available. More info...

Card Captor Sakura (Cardcaptors/Cardcaptor Sakura)
10-year-old Sakura Kinomoto, a 4th grader, opens a mysterious book in her father's study and accidentally lets loose the magical Clow Cards. Because she was able to release the cards, Sakura is revealed to have special powers and her duty now is to get them back, aided by Cerberus (Kerberos/Kero) and Syaoran Li.
CCS aired from 1998 to 2000, spanning 70 TV episodes (in 3 seasons), 2 movies and and several specials. This CLAMP title is known as one of the 'most' shoujo titles, due to the flowers, bubbles or sparkles present on almost every page of the manga. More info...

Puni Puni Poemi (Puni Puni Poemy)
PPP is the humorous story of Poemi Watanabe, a hyperactive school girl whose big dream is to become a voice actress. However, her plans are in danger when aliens attack the Earth. Receiving the power of a dead fish which acts as a magic wand, she battles the aliens with the aid of the Aasu sisters, who seem to have 'magical' powers.
In its essence, PPP is a parody of the shoujo genre (especially Poemi's transformation sequence which resembles Sailor Moon's). This spin-off spans 2 OVA episodes and aired in 2004. More info...

Rozen Maiden
Jun Sakurada is Junior High School student who refuses to go to school after a painful event and spends his day ordering things online. One day he comes across a mysterious doll which comes to life and turns him into her medium. The doll, whose name is Shinku, is the 5th Rozen Maiden doll, competing against Suigintou, the first Doll, in the 'Alice Game'.
The Rozen Maiden anime is divided into 2 seasons and 3 OVA episodes. There are also 3 games. More info...

Sakura is too adorable, Syaoran is so mysterious, Tomoyo is...well...Tomoyo, and Eriol is God (okay, so he just likes to play God). S+S and T+E are my two favorite couples, though for some reason, I've lately taken a slight interest in one-sided T+S. Eriol is definately my favorite human character, but I just L-U-V Suppi-chan and Kero-chan! ^_^
